Who is Mrs. Brown?

This is a picture of my family on vacation last year....

Hello, my name is Kelly Beam Brown and I absolutely "love" my job!   I can't sleep the night before school starts-because I'm excited to meet the students and families that will I  get to work with during the year.  I attended all Cherryville schools so I am definitely a homegrown "Cherryville gal".  Gosh, my first 7 years at Cherryville Elementary were spent in the same classroom where I was once a first grader. I loved that room and thought that was so neat!

The 2012-20013 school year will be my 19th year teaching. I began teaching Kindergarten at Forest Heights Elementary in Gastonia, NC then moved to 1st Grade. I then transferred to Cherryville Elementary and taught 1st grader for 16 years and last year I was switched back to Kindergarten. I love teaching Kindergarten for sure!
I graduated from Cherryville High School in 1989. I continued my education at University of North Carolina at Charlotte and received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education K-6 in 1993 and then my Masters in Elementary Education in May 2001.  In November 2003, I achieved National Board Certification. It was a wonderful learning experience! I have a Smartboard that my students love and I have been learning new things to share with my students.
My husband is Johnny.  We have a 13 year old son, Nickolas, who is an 8th grader this year.  He attends Chavis Middle School.  Nickolas is active and loves reading, math, science and history. He also loves playing basketball, baseball and football.  We are active members at First United Methodist Church in Cherryville.
My favorite thing about teaching is watching my students grow from the beginning of the year to the end of the year. It is absolutely AMAZING to watch a child be able to read a book on their own and even try to hide it during a lesson because they just cannot wait to see what happens next! Wow, truly a fabulous feeling to be a part of the future!
My teching philosophy is that all students can achieve to their highest ability if they are provided opportunities to do so. Not all students learn in the same way so it is my job to provide them with a successful experience while they are in my classroom. I use hands-on materials and differentiated approaches to learning to help my students always be the BEST can be! I love teaching all subjects and having a Smart Board in my room helps enrich my student's learning experiences. They really enjoy learning when they don't know that is what they are doing!
My students always LOVE completing research projects. They really feel like "big kids" when they get to do them. They always say, that was fun and that they can't wait to do some more research. It is so much fun being a Kindergarten teacher.
